Training/Sharing of Best Practices

SDHDC provides emergency preparedness training and educational opportunities for pre-hospital, hospital, and outpatient healthcare staff to effectively respond to various disasters. Some topics include: 

  • Evacuation planning 
  • Mass Casualty Incidents
  • Resource Request training
  • Long-term care and clinic disaster planning
  • Incident Command System (ICS) training
  • Nursing Home Incident Command System (NHICS) training
  • Medical Shelter, Field Treatment Site
  • CHEMPACK- Chemical/Nerve Agents training
  • Clinical Education- clinical disaster training (geared from SDHDC requests)
  • Activities identified in the Hazard Vulnerability Assessment (HVA)

Exercises

Participation in exercises is a primary focus on the Coalition to evaluate disaster plans, assess communication systems, and test resource coordination. 

Minimum Annual Exercises:

  • Tabletop Exercises
    • Discussion based scenarios
  • Full-Scale Exercises
    • Hands-on live drill

Redundant Communication Drills:

  • Practiced twice a year
  • Redundant communication drills with GEM (Genasys Emergency Management) in emergency preparedness
  • Practice using back-up communication methods: phone, email, fax, and ARES

Note: In the event of a real disaster, one or more of the above exercises may be cancelled or re-scheduled.
